The Outlandish Landscape exhibition showcases 30 new artworks by the artist, created on Dó paper, a traditional Vietnamese paper material.
The red chair wanders through the forest, surrendering itself to various dimensions of space. Its presence signifies remnants, the present, and possibly the future of society. The red chair embodies both the author and accumulated perspectives. The artist's deeply personal viewpoint leads us through diverse landscapes, with imagery set against the backdrop of nature, gradually venturing into new territories both on and beyond Earth.
The experience of the red chair is simultaneously individual and collective, local yet global. Historical landmarks such as launching rockets into space or constructing the Governor's Palace and the cog railway from Cham Tower to Dalat, along with doubts about how the world operates - the appearance of extraterrestrial beings or time travel, daily activities like going to the cinema or sitting by the lake... The red chair traverses endless staircases, facing oneself in the mirror, reflecting on experiences.
It's impossible not to mention the colour red as a magnetic force, drawing viewers to a (few) focal points in the vast space. The red chair, a cultural feature of Southeast Asian countries: from sidewalk cafes to humble eateries, embodies a working-class populace. The red chair is also a plastic chair - an artificial object in a natural environment, questioning humanity's overexploitation of ecosystems. Is society becoming dulled by industrialisation and consumerism?
The dimensions of space, from urban to wilderness, nostalgic to modern, real to virtual, are possibilities created by leaps through time gates. The red chair is an intermediary object connecting childhood memories and the excitement of innovation. It is an exquisite intersection between familiar hometown imagery and the thirst for mystical and novel discoveries.
